There is nothing more magical than summer reading time. Isn't that why summer exists? This summer we all had the choice to read all, one, or some of the selected books. As you will see to the right, there is a blog page for each book. On those individual blogs you will find suggested reading assignments, weekly posts from me, a list of the other people reading the book, and (as time goes on) a continuing conversation among us all about the book. You may choose to read the book all at once, or even all at once later in the summer. If so, add your comments as you go. However, the synergy of the discussion would benefit from a better flow. So, I guess my real suggestion is if you are an all-at-once reader, please read the book early in the summer so you can follow the discussion with the rest of us!
But first, on each blog there is a Getting Started button. Please go there first and fill out the Getting Started Form. That information will help me establish a good sense of direction for our conversation. If you think you signed up for a book you didn't receive, and you don't see your name listed on the class, please email me, but still fill out the form.If you somehow missed the chance to order a book or some books, you can still get in on the fun. Just email Bunny the names of the book/s you want and check your box at school in about week to pick up. If you have ordered these books for an electronic reader, please remind me by email which ones you are reading, so that I can add your name to the class list. But still fill out the form now.
On Monday, August 16, I will hold a series of face-to-face discussions of the book and our summer conversation. The time for your discussion is listed with your assignments. At this session we will try to make the best application of the material for our work in the 2010-11 school year, and of course, we will try to have some fun.
And finally, this blog is an educational experience for me as it may be for some of you. As we use this took, I hope we can develop a sense of the power of voice and contribution even though we are not together. Please use the blog so that we can gain a real sense of how it can be used in the classroom as well.
Get Reading!
